Plus Size Models.
Isn’t it sad that this is what these four beautiful women are referred to as? Four beautiful women with amazing bodies, any of which I’d be happy to have. So isn’t it sad that these women are made to seem bigger than average? This used to be a normal weight. One no one would even think twice about. One that someone might even say looks slim. But not anymore.
Isn’t it sad? So many women these days will starve, and vomit, and diet just to hear those words “you look so skinny”. Women aren’t supposed to be sticks. You aren’t supposed to see their bones and ribs. So few people still realize that these days. Isn’t it sad? So many people only see others as “skinny” and “fat”. like those are the only two body types around. But women have curves, that’s how we’re made. And women gain weight in different places then men and have much more trouble losing weight then men, because that’s how our bodies were made.
But this picture makes me happy, because of the smiles on their faces. Smiles as if to say “We look damn good & healthy too”. Women come in all different shapes and sizes, and so few people realize that their bodies can’t be compared to another woman’s. Some ladies are born with big boobs and a butt and curves for days, but what a lot of these ladies don’t realize is that they shouldn’t try to make their bodies look a different way. Most likely it’s not gonna happen, just because we’re all built differently. But so few people realize it these days because of what their told and because of what they see. (via kianavandusen)
I take several issues with the commentary going on here.
1. There’s the supposition that there’s something “sad” about the term plus size. That’s not a negative term. So what if that term is applied to these women? Compared to a standard model, they ARE plus sized and that’s not a bad thing. Plus size is just as beautiful as thin. There’s nothing sad about being considered plus sized.
2. Can we just get rid of the term “normal weight?” It’s problematic for so many reasons.
3. “Women aren’t supposed to be sticks. You aren’t supposed to see their bones and ribs.” Actually, some women are just built that way. And shaming someone for being built that way is just as “sad” as shaming someone for being fat. Women aren’t supposed to be any one type of build. We are a spectrum. We are fat, we are thin, we have vaginas, we have penises, we have breasts, or we don’t, we have brown skin, light skin, and everything in between. There isn’t a “supposed to” when it comes to women.
